Why Senate Suspends Keyamo's Screening
A motion moved by the Labour Party, LP, Senator representing Abia Central Senatorial District, Darlington Nwokocha, and seconded by the All Progressives Grand Alliance Senator representing Abia South Senatorial District, Enyinnaya Abaribe on Monday, forced the Senate to step down the screening of Festus Keyamo, SAN.

The motion to step down the screening of the Ministerial Nominee from Delta State, Festus Keyamo (SAN), caused a serious uproar in the red chamber
The President of the Senate, Godswill Akpabio, announced that the motion should be put to vote but the response divided the senators, which led to a serious shouting match in the chamber.
However, the Senate Leader, Opeyemi Bamidele, sensing danger, moved the motion that the Senate should discuss the matter behind closed doors
In the melee, the Sergeant-at-arms whisked Keyamo out of the chamber to enable the lawmakers determine his fate at close session.
Trouble started with Keyamo when Nwokocha accused Keyamo of disrespecting the 9th National Assembly and accusing the last Assembly of being corrupt.
According to Nwokocha, during the administration of ex-President Muhammadu Buhari, Keyamo was invited to explain a Special Public Works programme but he didn’t honour the invitation
Nwokocha said Keyamo, during his service as the second minister of Labour, supervised 774,000 jobs, which was not satisfactory to the 9th Senate.
The senator asked Keyamo to prepare himself and defend how some local government areas were not beneficiaries of the scheme under former President Muhammadu Buhari.
He also accused Keyamo of saying that the Red Chamber was teaching him how to do his job when he was invited during Buhari’s administration.
He also said Keyamo blocked the oversight function of the members of House of Representatives during Buhari's administration from investigating the funds released to his Ministry.
